📄MOTO Function Setup and Usage

Oolio Pay MOTO Payment Setup and Processing

Overview

This article explains how to enable and process Mail Order / Telephone Order (MOTO) payments using an Oolio Pay terminal.

It also outlines the limitations of MOTO, the difference between standalone and POS-integrated workflows, and the key risks and compliance requirements to be aware of.

Quick Find

How to Enable MOTO?

To enable MOTO payments, complete the following steps:

  1. Send an email to support.pay@oolio.com requesting either the MOTO feature or the SAQ-B form.

  2. Include your Trading Name and Legal Entity Name in the request.

  3. Ensure an authorised signatory from your organisation is aware of the request, as they are required to approve and sign it.

  4. Include the serial number of the terminal(s) you want MOTO enabled on.

📌 Note: The default MOTO transaction limit is $1000.

💡 Tip: If you require a MOTO limit above $1000, include this in your email request. Additional compliance verification will be required before approval.

  1. Access the MOTO function from the terminal.

  2. Select Transactions.

Process of taking a MOTO payment
Models: S1F2, S1E2(L), V400m, P400

  1. Select MOTO payment.

  2. Enter the transaction amount and confirm it.

  3. Follow the prompts on the terminal to enter:

    • the shopper's card number

    • the expiry date

    • the CVC code

  4. If prompted, enter the shopper's postal code and house number.

Caution: Surcharge does not apply automatically to MOTO transactions on Global Acquirer terminals.

If you normally pass the surcharge on to the customer, you must calculate and enter the total amount manually. For example, if the surcharge is 1.65% and you need to collect $100, enter $101.65.

2. Local Acquirer

Supported models include:

  • Verifone V660p

  • Verifone P630

  • Verifone V400m

  • Verifone P400

Refer to the terminal-specific MOTO workflow for:

  • MOTO on V660p

  • MOTO on P630

MOTO - POS Integrated Mode

Depending on your POS, integrated MOTO payments may or may not be supported.

For example:

  • bepoz and IdealPOS can support integrated MOTO payments.

  • Oolio POS requires you to start the MOTO payment manually on the terminal, then finalise it in the POS using a payment method such as MOTO for reconciliation.

Contact your POS support provider to confirm:

  • whether integrated MOTO payments are supported

  • how the workflow operates in your POS

  • what setup steps are required

MOTO - Risks & Compliance

MOTO payments carry a higher risk of fraud and chargebacks because the card is not physically presented during the transaction. Businesses should ensure MOTO is enabled only on approved dedicated terminals, follow all compliance requirements, and make sure staff handle cardholder information securely.

Caution: If you are unsure whether your venue, terminal, or POS setup supports MOTO correctly, contact Oolio Pay Support or your POS support provider before processing live transactions.
